This role is part of our 2025 Graduate Recruitment Scheme, so is only available for recent Graduates who have completed a university qualification within the last 12-month period. As part of this scheme, all Graduates will be offered a 12-month Fixed-Term contract to work with us out of our 150 Holborn Studio.
In this role, you will work directly with our talented Portland Design team, who are an internationally renowned design consultancy that specialise in crafting brand propositions and design experiences. At the heart of Portland’s design ethos is the importance of people and how they engage emotionally and physically with brands, communities, and places. Our team of highly creative and strategically minded thinkers are ready to tackle any design challenge.
As a Junior Designer, you will have the ability to work across a number of exciting local and global projects at varying scales and stages. This role will give you the confidence to develop yourself as a designer and provide hands-on experience in combining design, problem-solving, and understanding human behaviour to ensure a positive user experience. You will receive support, guidance, and mentorship from our team throughout your time with us.

As this is a Graduate role, we are currently open to reviewing applicants who have 0-1 years' experience within the industry.
Overall responsibilities will include (but aren’t limited to):
- Provides assistance throughout the design process under routine guidance; contributes to the overall success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in interior design, execution, and Living Design.
- Begins to understand branding concepts and their integration in the built environment.
- Participates in preparing design plans, design strategy, storytelling, colour plans, and schedules.
- Supports development of plan diagrams, sections, and elevations.
- Learns to manipulate basic design elements and applies principles of design such as form, scale, color, texture, pattern, balance, and proportion.
- Proactively asks questions and expresses curiosity about the world of design and the industry at large.
- Uses a creative approach to perform tasks and responsibilities on projects in an organised, timely, and consistent way.
- Provides support to tasks within project teams and studio activities.
- Communicates ideas and thoughts in a way that inspires others.
- Participates in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups.
- Assists with coordination among partners and consultants.
Critical baseline skills, abilities and certifications:
- Personable, presentable, and articulate.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- A solid foundational understanding of environmental graphic design expertise.
Software skills:
- Revit [Required]
- Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) [Required]
- Rhino / Grasshopper [Desirable]
- Enscape / VRay [Desirable]
Education Requirement:
- Degree in a related field [Required]
