PerkinElmer is seeking a Strategic Segment Manager to own the full go-to-market strategy for Materials, Polymers & Chemicals. This is a market-facing, intelligence-led role that sits at the intersection of product strategy and commercial execution. The Strategic Segment Manager is the organisation's foremost expert on their assigned market: the customer workflows, competitive dynamics, regulatory environment, and purchasing patterns that determine how PerkinElmer wins or loses in that segment. They translate this expertise into Market Requirements Documents that shape product roadmaps, go-to-market playbooks that guide commercial execution, and value propositions that give the sales organisation a compelling story to tell. This is a cross-product-line role. The Strategic Segment Manager sees the segment horizontally - understanding how customers in their market use the full range of PerkinElmer's analytical capabilities, and identifying where the portfolio wins, where it loses, and where it needs to evolve.

Market Requirements Documents (MRDs)

  • Own the segment's Market Requirements Document - the structured, evidence-based articulation of customer needs, competitive gaps, and product investment priorities for the assigned segment across all relevant PerkinElmer product lines.
  • Update and maintain the MRD on a structured annual cadence, with interim updates when significant market events (competitive launches, regulatory changes, customer feedback patterns) require immediate revision.
  • Present MRD findings and recommendations to the VP Product Line teams, VP Marketing, and Sr. Director - defending investment priorities with customer evidence and commercial data, not assumption.
  • Ensure MRD inputs are formally adopted into at least one VP Product Line roadmap planning cycle per year, tracking implementation of MRD-driven product decisions.

Go-to-Market Strategy & Commercial Enablement

  • Develop the segment go-to-market strategy: target customer profiles, channel priorities, campaign themes, value proposition hierarchy, and commercial messaging that positions PerkinElmer's portfolio competitively in the assigned segment.
  • Produce commercially actionable segment enablement tools: competitive battlecards, segment application guides, customer workflow maps, and sales playbooks that Regional Marketing Managers and the field sales organisation can deploy immediately.
  • Partner with the Portfolio marketing team to brief and review segment-specific campaign content - ensuring technical accuracy, commercial relevance, and strategic alignment with the segment's priority themes.
  • Drive annual growth planning for the assigned segment - identifying the highest-priority growth initiatives, the product line actions required to capture them, and the commercial resources needed to win.

Thought Leadership & External Presence

  • Develop segment-specific thought leadership content: white papers, application note series themes, scientific conference presentations, and regulatory commentary that establishes PerkinElmer as a knowledgeable, credible voice in the segment.
  • Represent PerkinElmer at segment-specific conferences, trade shows, and customer advisory events - speaking, networking, and gathering market intelligence.
  • Contribute to PerkinElmer's customer advisory board programming for the segment - designing agendas, facilitating discussions, and translating advisory input into commercial and product management action.

Success Metrics

  • MRD completion and adoption - annual MRD delivered on schedule and formally adopted in at least one VP Product Line roadmap planning cycle.
  • VOC coverage - minimum 25 documented in-depth customer conversations per year.
  • Segment growth contribution - revenue growth in the assigned segment vs. prior year and vs. market growth rate.
  • Enablement asset quality and utilization - Portfolio marketing content briefed, commercial tools produced, and field adoption rate of segment playbooks and battlecards.
  • Competitive win rate in the segment - tracked through win/loss analysis.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in product management, segment marketing, market intelligence, or applications science within analytical instrumentation, life sciences tools, or a closely adjacent scientific or industrial technology business.
  • Deep domain expertise in the assigned segment - sufficient to engage credibly with customer scientists, interpret regulatory requirements, and identify commercially significant technical developments without specialist support.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting structured VOC programmes and translating customer insight into rigorous, commercially actionable product strategy inputs.
  • Experience producing strategic documents - Market Requirements Documents, market assessments, or competitive analyses - used to drive product investment decisions.
  • Strong communication skills: able to write and present at a high standard for both technical and commercial audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree (MSc, PhD) providing peer-level scientific credibility with customers and with the product line PM teams the Segment Manager must influence.
  • Experience working in the assigned segment - as a researcher, analytical chemist, regulatory specialist, or applications expert - giving first-hand understanding of customer workflows and decision drivers.
  • Track record of external scientific engagement: publications, conference presentations, or regulatory body participation in the assigned market.
  • Experience building competitive intelligence systems or structured VOC programmes where none previously existed.
