Support Gunnersbury Museum to become a thriving resource for its local communities by joining their Board of Trustees. This recruitment follows a recent governance review and comes at a pivotal time for the Trust, as it builds momentum across heritage conservation, cultural programming, community engagement and environmental sustainability. Gunnersbury is a unique estate, comprising 72 hectares of parkland, 21 listed buildings including a Regency‑era mansion, and a museum that reflects the diverse histories of West London. With a growing programme of exhibitions, education, events and large‑scale music festivals, it plays a vital role as both a cultural destination and a community asset.

The Trust is looking for individuals who bring insight, expertise and a strong commitment to its mission. Candidates with experience in heritage, sustainability, fundraising, events, or community leadership are particularly encouraged to apply. Gunnersbury Museum & Park Development Trust is responsible for the care and management of 72 hectares of Grade II* listed parkland and 21 listed buildings and structures in West London. Spanning two London boroughs, the estate serves a diverse community of over 650,000 people. The Trust’s charitable purpose is to preserve, conserve, and interpret the Museum collections, historic buildings, and landscapes of the Gunnersbury Estate for public benefit, including advancing education and promoting social welfare. Their vision is to make Gunnersbury an outstanding, sustainable green space that celebrates its unique heritage while offering a rich programme of educational and cultural activities, events, and facilities accessible to everyone. Their mission is to conserve, manage, and develop the Gunnersbury Estate as a thriving recreational, cultural, and educational resource, delivered in partnership with local communities.

About the role: Trustees play a vital role in supporting the strategic direction, governance and long‑term sustainability of Gunnersbury Museum & Park Development Trust. Working collectively as a Board, Trustees help to ensure that the estate’s heritage, public spaces and cultural programmes continue to thrive for the benefit of local communities. Trustees are expected to:

  • Provide strategic oversight and contribute to key decision‑making.
  • Support the organisation to deliver its charitable objectives and vision.
  • Act as ambassadors for the Trust, championing its work and values.
  • Ensure legal, financial and regulatory responsibilities are met.
  • Bring insight and expertise to help shape priorities and navigate challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of partnerships and networks where relevant.

Trustees will have a meaningful impact by helping to preserve a unique cultural and environmental asset, promote inclusive access to heritage, and support an ambitious and community‑focused organisation at an exciting point in its development. This is a voluntary position with a commitment of approximately six Board meetings per year, plus occasional subcommittee involvement and attendance at key events.

Who we are looking for: We welcome interest from individuals who share our commitment to heritage, sustainability, and community impact. We’re particularly keen to hear from people with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Capital fundraising – with a track record of securing major gifts, grants or sponsorships.
  • Environmental sustainability – especially in urban parks, landscapes or historic sites.
  • Large‑scale outdoor event management – including concerts, festivals, and public gatherings.
  • Museum services – including collections care, interpretation, or curatorial expertise.
  • Heritage and estate management – with knowledge of listed buildings, conservation, or planning frameworks.

You do not need previous board experience; we will provide induction and ongoing support. We particularly encourage applications from individuals from underrepresented backgrounds and those with strong ties to the local area.
