About the role
We are looking for a new Chair of our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee to join a board that maintains open and engaged relationships with our executive team. The Chair will work closely with the Director of Finance and Resources and the wider executive team to ensure financial resilience amid funding pressures.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and scrutiny of the organisation’s financial health, audit processes, and risk management framework.
- Lead the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, facilitating dialogue and challenging discussion in a supportive manner.
- Collaborate with the executive team to navigate financial and risk challenges with rigour and humanity.
- Participate in quarterly board meetings and an annual governance day; attend committee meetings four times a year.
- Support the board’s strategic oversight and help progress the organisation’s ambitions, such as becoming a Registered Social Landlord.
Qualifications
- Genuine financial expertise (e.g., finance director, chief financial officer, chief operating officer) coupled with interest in the social care sector.
- Experience and understanding that allows you to contribute confidently, ask probing questions, and prioritise the role.
- Ability to engage with board members, build relationships, and act as an influential trustee.
- Practical, collaborative, and curious mindset with capacity to make a real difference.
- Diverse background encouraged; commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.
Time commitment
Approximately a day a month on average, including meetings, preparation, ad hoc conversations, and attending events and visiting services throughout the year. Board meetings are held quarterly in person at Reigate, and the committee meets virtually four times a year.
