This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead fundraising in a brand-new role at Suicide&Co, an innovative, inspiring charity providing counselling for people bereaved by suicide.

About Suicide&Co

Suicide&Co is a national charity providing specialist support for people bereaved by suicide. Since launching in 2020, we have been dedicated to ensuring that those affected by suicide loss are seen, supported and never alone. Our core service offers up to 12 sessions with qualified counsellors, providing a safe and consistent space to process grief and trauma. Alongside this, our Early Bereavement Support Programme offers immediate, compassionate one-to-one support from dedicated Suicide Bereavement Advisors during the first, most difficult months after loss. Alongside those services, we have our App and website, which empower self-care and provide guidance and collections of lived experience. Our mission is simple but vital: to open up the conversation around suicide loss so that no one has to navigate it alone.

About the role

The need for our work is significant. Around 100,000 people are bereaved by suicide each year in the UK. Fundraising is critical to enabling us to support more people and to continue developing our services. Since 2020, we have achieved steady income growth and are on track to reach £1.7m this financial year. We are ambitious to go further by expanding our reach, diversifying our income streams and ensuring long-term sustainability. We are now seeking our first Fundraising Director to build on our strong foundations and lead the next phase of our growth. Leading a team of 4 and sitting within our senior leadership team, this is a role which will be both strategic and hands-on. It will also work closely with our board of trustees and our growth advisory panel.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-year fundraising strategy.
  • Provide oversight, leadership and strategic support to the fundraising team.
  • Lead annual budgeting process for the fundraising team, monitoring income and expenditure to ensure targets are met and resources are optimised.
  • Work with the CEO to set and monitor core team KPIs, such as cross-selling fundraising opportunities and brand advocacy.
  • Identify and launch new income streams.
  • Build and manage relationships with major donors, trusts and foundations and corporate partners.
  • Lead the development of a robust multi-year grants pipeline.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of major fundraising events (e.g. Breaking the Ice Ball).

We are a vibrant, hard-working, creative and fun organisation seeking an experienced fundraising leader who can take our income to the next level.

Person specification

  • Proven track record of generating income through multiple income streams.
  • Proven experience in fundraising at leadership level, including diversifying and growing income.
  • Significant experience in personally delivering high-value income, including trusts & foundations, philanthropy and/or corporate partnerships.
  • Experience in leading and developing a team of fundraisers.
  • Experience of developing supporter journeys.
  • Experience of organising and running fundraising events.
  • Proven ability to ‘make the ask’ of significant donors.
