About the role:
With a new strategy in its early stages, growing policy engagement and a clear ambition to strengthen long‑term sustainability, we are seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who can translate strategy into momentum, build a cohesive community of more than 30 professional bodies, and drive growth and relevance for the Science Council.
- Lead the organisation in partnership with the Chair and Board, delivering the strategy with clarity and momentum.
- Represent the Council externally, building relationships with government, employers, opinion‑formers and stakeholders to enhance visibility and influence.
- Deliver sustainable financial performance, ensuring the organisation is well run and responsive to emerging opportunities.
- Expand professional registration, develop new partnerships and identify opportunities to diversify income while staying true to the Council’s purpose.
- Align priorities and deepen collaboration across the wider science ecosystem, building strong relationships with partners and stakeholders.
Who we are looking for:
- A leader motivated by public benefit and the role science plays in society who can lead in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment and bring people together around a shared purpose.
- Experience leading an organisation or significant function through a period of growth or change.
- Credibility to engage with senior stakeholders across policy, industry and the professions.
- Strong understanding of governance and the ability to work closely with a Board; balancing strategic thinking with delivery in a small, agile organisation.
- Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and the ability to create environments where people can contribute and belong.
- Thoughtful, collaborative, confident decision‑maker capable of guiding the organisation through its next phase.
- A proactive, values‑driven mindset with an instinct for working across boundaries.
