Head of Global Philanthropy Justice & Care

Lead global philanthropy at Justice & Care, raising vital major gifts to support the organisation’s fight against modern slavery across the UK and all over the world.

  • Location: 2 days per week in central London offices, plus opportunity to travel internationally
  • Closing date: Rolling applications

Who we are

Modern slavery is the fastest-growing crime in the world, with an estimated 50 million victims worldwide. Law enforcement struggles with its complexity and transnational nature, as well as the difficulty of obtaining evidence from traumatised and fearful victims.

Our Mission
Justice & Care joins forces to end modern slavery. We recognise that we cannot do it alone – it needs survivors, governments, law enforcement agencies, businesses, media, NGOs, and investors to work together. There will be no single hero in this fight, and that is why we form atypical cross-sector and cross-border partnerships to achieve systems change that lead to lasting freedom for individuals and societies.

Our Vision
By 2035 our vision is to significantly reduce modern slavery in the strategic locations where we work – Bangladesh and the UK.

We will achieve this through our strategic pillars:

  • Safety for the vulnerable, including through system change to strengthen rights, effective aftercare and targeted prevention.
  • Risk for traffickers, including through prosecution casework, cross-border investigative capacity and system change to strengthen laws and practices.

The Head of Global Philanthropy is a senior, income-generating leadership role within Justice & Care’s Development Team, with a primary focus on securing significant new philanthropic investment and accelerating growth across the UK, US and emerging international markets.

Justice & Care generates approximately £1.8m annually through global philanthropy, and the Head of Global Philanthropy will inherit an established donor portfolio while taking personal responsibility for securing significant new philanthropic income.

This newly created role will help build on our existing success to develop new and existing relationships with five- and six-figure donors. The role will lead and develop the Philanthropy team – currently line managing one member of staff.

This is a hands-on leadership role; the postholder will be a senior leader within the Development team, working closely with our Global Director of Fundraising to develop the philanthropy strategy, whilst also personally driving philanthropic gifts.

There is the opportunity for international travel as part of this role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Take personal responsibility for generating significant new philanthropic income, with a strong focus on securing five- and six-figure gifts from new donors.
  • Open new networks independently and through trustees, ambassadors, senior leaders and strategic connectors.
  • Develop and deliver an ambitious philanthropy strategy focused on significant and sustainable income growth.
  • Grow flexible, unrestricted, multi-year and transformational giving.
  • Build new markets and networks, particularly in the US.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Philanthropy Specialist and future members of a growing team.
  • Own a strong, well-qualified major donor pipeline with clear next actions, timescales and ownership.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an exceptional new business developer with a proven track record of securing significant financial commitments, who can identify and engage high-net-worth individuals, open influential networks, build trusted relationships and personally secure transformational five- and six-figure gifts.

You will be warm, passionate and ambitious, with excellent communication and sales skills. You do not need to have experience in international markets, but an interest in and enthusiasm for our global work is crucial.

We are also open to considering candidates with transferable skills from the commercial sector.

  • Proven track record of personally originating and securing significant five- and six-figure gifts, deals or financial commitments from high-net-worth individuals or senior decision makers.
  • Demonstrable success identifying, developing and converting high-value prospects, with clear examples of independently generating new business and securing substantial financial commitments.
  • Strong experience engaging and influencing high-net-worth individuals, senior decision-makers and other influential stakeholders.
  • Experience leading or managing others, or clear readiness to lead and develop a growing philanthropy team
  • Experience developing and delivering income generation or business development strategies, with strong commercial judgement and forecasting capability.
  • Exceptional relationship building, influencing and communication skills, with high emotional intelligence.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial and results-focused, with a genuine drive to generate new opportunities and secure significant gifts.
  • Willingness to attend occasional evening events and undertake UK and international travel.
