Join Stop Domestic Abuse as our new Director of Income and Communications to support and empower survivors of domestic abuse and stalking in Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton.
Stop Domestic Abuse is a leading, women‑led, feminist charity supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse and stalking across Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton. Established in 1977 as Havant Women’s Aid, we have grown from a single refuge into a major regional provider delivering specialist, trauma‑informed services through our 19 refuges and community support. Guided by the vision of a world without domestic abuse, we work to empower survivors, amplify their voices and ensure every individual can access safety, dignity and choice.
We deliver a wide range of flexible, accessible services including refuges, dispersed accommodation, community‑based support, specialist children’s services and targeted programmes addressing harmful behaviours. Each year, thousands of adults, children and young people receive one‑to‑one support, group interventions, advocacy and safety planning tailored to their risk level and needs. Our work is rooted in trauma‑informed practice and holistic support, ensuring survivors are met with compassion, respect and specialist expertise at every stage of their journey.
We have also begun building our new purpose‑built refuge, which will be an inspiring home for families rebuilding their lives. Stop Domestic Abuse is a recognised sector leader in coordinated community responses. We work in partnership with health services, local authorities, police, education providers and voluntary organisations to ensure victims and survivors are identified early, supported effectively and not left to navigate the system alone. Our growing network of community champions and ambassadors strengthens prevention and awareness at a grassroots level, helping to challenge stigma and foster safer communities.
Children and young people are at the heart of our mission. The charity delivers universal prevention, targeted group work and specialist one‑to‑one support for children affected by domestic abuse, recognising them as victims. Our services help children rebuild confidence, develop healthy relationship skills and recover from trauma, breaking the intergenerational cycle of abuse. Today, Stop Domestic Abuse employs more than 220 staff, receives over 15,000 referrals a year and operates 19 refuges alongside a wide range of community programmes.
With national‑standard accreditation from Women’s Aid and a new purpose‑built refuge underway, we continue to innovate, advocate and campaign for systemic change. As an experienced senior manager with a proven track record of leadership in the voluntary/social care sector, the Director of Income Generation and Communications will work as a key member of Stop Domestic Abuse’s executive leadership team. You will deliver sustainable growth and development in income generation so that our mission and long‑term ambitions can be achieved. You will fulfil the organisation’s strategic plans, focusing on securing and managing contracts and grants, diversified income generation, the development of communications and marketing as well as management and business development.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, develop and deliver the income generation strategy.
- Drive growth and business opportunities.
- Sustain existing and develop new partnerships with key stakeholders across the sector.
- Confidently manage and develop our communications and engagement strategy and delivery.
- Lead the development of a high‑performing income generation and communications team.
- Be part of the executive leadership team, contributing to the overall running of the organisation (including governance).
- Ensure robust compliance as the GDPR Officer of the organisation.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a senior fundraiser with a particular focus or interest in the women’s sector or VAWG sector. You will have experience in leading income generation, particularly in writing compelling bids, grants and tenders. You will be a successful team manager with the experience to develop a strong income generation and communications strategy, as well as leading the team to achieve their professional goals.
Person specification:
- Knowledge and understanding of the voluntary and public sector environment in which services operate, and of accreditation framework, quality assurance and impact measurement.
- Experience in a senior leadership role in organisations turning over ÂŁ4m+.
- Experience in writing and producing reports and bids/funding applications to deadlines for a variety of funders and audiences.
- Exceptional track record of securing statutory and voluntary grant funding and commissioning contracts with a particular focus on local authority tenders.
- Highly innovative with an entrepreneurial approach that translates big ideas into opportunities and achievable plans.
- Ability to think and act strategically, with a positive and proactive approach and to lead with emotional intelligence.
- A proven track record in line management and team leadership.
- An understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of Stop Domestic Abuse.
