Location: Hybrid / London EC1A office (Tuesdays and Wednesdays minimum)

Who we are

As East London’s oldest healthcare charity, we’ve been at the forefront of advancing healthcare for hundreds of years. The hospitals we support strive to provide excellent care to their patients. Yet too many people’s lives in East London are affected by ill health.

As the dedicated charity for Barts Health NHS Trust, we support St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross, Newham, The Royal London and Mile End hospitals. We’re also partnered with The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London and The School of Health & Medical Sciences at City, St George’s where we fund world-leading medical research.

Together with our partners and supporters, we make better healthcare possible. We invest in inspiring people and projects that have the greatest impact on the health and lives of local people. And as our local community is one of the most diverse places to call home (2.5m people from 97 nationalities), what makes a difference in East London has the potential to touch lives across the world.

About the role

This is a great opportunity to join an ambitious and supportive team committed to extending the impact of philanthropic funding in East London and beyond. We are looking to grow fundraised income to a sustainable level of £5m–£10m per year.

While major gifts will be the primary contributor to this total, public fundraising plays an important part in engaging the East London population and is currently focused on the Charity’s visibility in hospitals, a portfolio of challenge events and legacy marketing.

We are a strategic funder, so our fundraising is led by the pipeline of funding projects and the portfolio of grants we have awarded. What we fund must be strategically aligned with our partners at Barts Health and QMUL, and our portfolio includes many transformational funding awards (over £1m) across healthcare delivery and medical research.

A new chapter of integration

Currently, the Fundraising and Marketing & Communications teams are managed separately, with the latter led by the Chief Operating Officer. A vacancy in the role of Director of Fundraising now affords us the opportunity to join the two teams together, aligning strategy and implementation more closely and working more effectively with the Funding & Impact team.

Who we are looking for

We seek a senior fundraising professional with a strong track record of generating multi-million-pound income from fundraising or sales. Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with partners at the NHS Trust and Queen Mary University London, you will lead in shaping and delivering our fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies.

You’ll bring a strategic, integrated approach, ensuring fundraising, marketing, and communications activity is not only well aligned internally but also effectively supports the charity’s wider ambitions and our Funding and impact strategy.

We’re looking for:

  • A dynamic and proactive senior fundraiser, with a passion for purpose-driven work
  • Someone comfortable in a fast-moving, evolving environment
  • An inspiring communicator and relationship builder, able to influence senior volunteers, donors, and institutional partners
  • An experienced and confident leader, capable of guiding a team through change and structural reorganisation
  • Someone who leads with clarity, empathy, and ambition

Your leadership will directly enable funding for life-saving research, frontline innovation, and community health programmes tackling some of the most pressing health inequalities in the UK.

Ready to make a lasting impact? Join us in transforming healthcare in East London—and beyond.

Applications for this role close at 9 a.m. Monday 23rd June 2025.
