The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 € per year.

Based on the needs of the Customer, a Designer II designs cost effective formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions, and prepares drawings (including material take-offs) for standard and custom designs. The Designer II is expected to attend meetings, develop direct relationships with customers, and communicate directly with them on technical issues. They exhibit knowledge and design skills associated with an experienced design professional.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Develop formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions for various kinds of construction projects.
  • Create general arrangement, assembly, and steel fabrication drawings in 3D and 2D.
  • Interact with PERI’s Technical Sales Consultants to provide the most cost-effective design solutions.
  • Directly interface with customers to understand customer’s needs.
  • Work closely with design professionals (e.g., internal & external stamping engineers) to ensure the designs meet national and local standards (e.g., CSA, OHSA, and National and Provincial Building Codes).
  • Perform and document design calculations, including the use of in-house structural analysis software, to ensure safe and economical designs.
  • Provide concepts and design direction to Engineering Interns, Draftspeople and Designers.
  • May be involved in reviewing and approving designs of more junior team members (as experience dictates).
  • Create material lists and check material lists done by others.
  • Create and maintain engineering-related documents.
  • Adhere to drafting and engineering procedures as set out in the Quality Management system and Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
  • Mentor, assist and instruct Engineering Interns, Draftspeople and more junior Designers.
  • Visit job sites and provide technical support when required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or relative industry experience / education.
  • 3-5 plus years of experience in structural engineering and construction.
  • 1 plus year of experience using AutoCAD.
  • Experience using structural analysis software.
  • Formwork design experience; scaffolding design experience is an asset.
  • Good understanding of structural and architectural drawings, as well as construction sequencing.
  • Understanding of Canadian and Provincial Building Standards and Codes; basic understanding of European standards, relevant to formwork and/or scaffolding, is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English and French), is an asset.
  • Vehicle and valid driver’s license required.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, drive, and ability to prioritize their tasks.
  • Very effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Skilled at mentoring and training team members.
  • Very good ability to learn quickly and to work well independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Skilled with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Advanced ability to work with AutoCAD 2D and 3D.
  • Ability to work with Revit is an asset.
