  • The Deputy Editor plays a key role in shaping the editorial direction and day-to-day delivery of Performance Marketing World (PMW).

Working closely with the Editor, the role is responsible for planning, commissioning, editing and producing high-quality, audience-focused journalism across multiple platforms, ensuring content is engaging, accurate and aligned with PMW's editorial standards and strategic objectives.

  • As the operational lead for the daily editorial output, the Deputy Editor supports the delivery of PMW's audience growth and subscriber engagement ambitions while contributing to the development of long-term editorial initiatives, including original investigations, proprietary research and data-led content.

The role also works collaboratively with colleagues across editorial, events, marketing and commercial teams to maximise the reach and impact of PMW's content.

  • Key Relationships
  • The Deputy Editor works closely with the Editor and collaborates with colleagues across editorial, design, marketing, events and commercial teams to deliver high-quality, audience-focused content.

The role also builds and maintains strong relationships with freelance contributors, industry contacts and external stakeholders to support the development of authoritative and engaging editorial content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, commission, write, edit and publish high-quality editorial content across digital, social, email and other relevant platforms, ensuring content is accurate, engaging and delivered to deadline.
  • Support the delivery of PMW's editorial strategy by producing audience-focused content that reflects the interests and needs of performance marketing professionals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Editor to develop and deliver long-term editorial initiatives, including investigative journalism, proprietary research and audience growth projects.
  • Ensure all editorial content meets the highest standards of accuracy, style, legal compliance and editorial integrity, providing sub-editing and quality assurance where required.
  • Monitor and contribute to the achievement of audience growth, engagement and subscription objectives, using data and audience insights to inform editorial decisions and continuously improve content performance.
  • Generate innovative editorial ideas and identify opportunities to develop compelling content across a range of formats, including articles, newsletters, podcasts, webinars, video and live events.
  • Represent PMW professionally across relevant channels, including social media, helping to strengthen the brand's profile and audience engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contributors, industry contacts and key stakeholders to support the development of high-quality, original content.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across editorial, design, marketing, events and commercial teams to maximise the reach, impact and presentation of editorial content while maintaining editorial independence.
  • Foster an inclusive approach to content creation, ensuring editorial output reflects diverse perspectives, experiences and voices relevant to PMW's audience.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of editorial processes, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, collaboration and content quality.
  • Provide leadership and support to the editorial team, including mentoring colleagues where appropriate and providing cover during periods of absence.

  • Strong understanding of digital publishing, journalism and editorial best practice.
  • Knowledge of the performance marketing, advertising or wider marketing industry, or the ability to quickly develop expertise in the sector.
  • Understanding of audience engagement, subscriber growth strategies and content performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of content management systems (CMS), social media platforms and digital content distribution.
  • Awareness of media law, copyright, data protection and editorial compliance requirements.

  • Demonstrable success in writing, editing and commissioning high-quality editorial content across multiple digital channels.
  • Proficiency in using a content management system (CMS) to publish and manage digital content.
  • A track record of analysing audience data and using insights to improve content performance and engagement.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver successful editorial projects.
  • Previous experience managing, mentoring or coaching colleagues would be advantageous.
  • Experience, or a genuine enthusiasm, for hosting or contributing to live events, webinars, podcasts or video content.
  • Knowledge of, or previous experience covering, the marketing, advertising or media industry would be advantageous.
