Perform Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a confident and proactive Site Safety & Compliance Officer to take full ownership of the safety function at their Howden site. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a standalone role within a well-established business, where you will have real autonomy, influence, and visibility across a 150-employee operational environment.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will be the go-to expert for all safety and compliance matters and play a key role in driving standards forward. This is not a support role — this is full ownership.

Key Focus for the First 6 Months

  • Reviewing and updating all Risk Assessments
  • Ensuring SOPs are current, clear and embedded
  • Driving positive change in site safety culture
  • Preparing for and supporting internal and external audits
  • Improving incident and near-miss reporting processes

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the full safety and compliance function on-site
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain COSHH documentation
  • Carry out regular inspections and ensure legal compliance
  • Lead accident/incident investigations and implement preventative actions
  • Manage statutory inspections (lifting equipment, FLTs, fire equipment, racking, etc.)
  • Deliver training, toolbox talks and inductions
  • Chair monthly safety meetings and track KPIs
  • Maintain emergency procedures and Fire Log Book records

About You

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (essential)
  • Experience within a manufacturing or operational environment
  • Comfortable operating in a standalone, autonomous role
  • Strong working knowledge of UK safety legislation
  • Confident communicator able to influence at all levels
  • Practical, proactive and detail-oriented
  • NEBOSH Diploma and IOSH membership are desirable but not essential.
