Senior Software Engineer, Python at Perforce. About the role We are seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our IP Lifecycle Management (IPLM) team, where you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing tools tailored for professionals in semiconductor and hardware design. This position involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of features for our Python-based command-line interface (CLI) and caching systems. You will collaborate closely with server teams and support groups to ensure seamless integration and functionality.

What you'll do

  • Design, implement, and deploy CLI commands and subcommands that facilitate various workflows related to intellectual property, workspaces, releases, and snapshots.
  • Seamlessly integrate the CLI's data management layer with popular version control systems such as Git, SVN, and Perforce.
  • Monitor and maintain development branches, proactively identifying and addressing regressions in both unit and integration testing suites.
  • Develop and enhance AI-driven development methodologies, including automated quality assurance processes and agent-based workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications for new features.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and maintain high code quality across the team.
  • Document design choices and provide justifications for patches to enhance team knowledge and facilitate onboarding of new members.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve our tools and processes.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong emphasis on Python development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating command-line tools, including skills in argument parsing, generating structured JSON outputs, and effective error handling.
  • Solid experience with version control systems, particularly Git and Perforce, showcasing your ability to manage code effectively.
  • Proven capability in designing and maintaining robust unit and integration testing frameworks to ensure software reliability.
  • Familiarity with working in a Linux environment, including proficiency in bash scripting and troubleshooting system issues.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, enabling you to document design decisions and provide clear patch justifications.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to using Perforce/Helix Core if not already familiar with the platform.
