Our client is a well-established organisation and part of a major European group specialising in high-temperature boiler systems and advanced thermal energy solutions. From their UK headquarters in Hertfordshire, they support industrial clients across England and Scotland, delivering innovative equipment and services across sectors including FMCG, food production, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and the public sector.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Operations / Field Service Manager to lead and develop a nationwide engineering team while contributing to ongoing innovation and business growth.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing a team of up to 18 Field Service Engineers and support staff located across the UK. The team installs, commissions, and services specialist equipment involving thermodynamics, heat transfer, heat recovery systems, and industrial burner technologies. The role is primarily office-based at the Hertfordshire head office, with regular travel to meet, mentor, and support engineers in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop a nationwide Field Service Engineering team
- Recruit new engineers and support onboarding activities
- Deliver technical training on bespoke product ranges and systems
- Mentor engineers transitioning from related industries such as HVAC, commercial gas, or industrial sectors
- Support skills development, enabling engineers to expand into installation and commissioning activities
- Share technical expertise and promote continuous improvement across the team
- Ensure high standards of service delivery, safety, and customer satisfaction
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Mechanical or Chemical Engineer (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience managing engineering or field service teams
- Strong leadership, coaching, and people development skills
- Industry experience within steam, boilers, HVAC, thermal systems, or oil & gas sectors is highly desirable
- Ability to motivate teams and drive performance across geographically dispersed locations
- Full UK driving licence
