An established and growing engineering consultancy in West Sussex is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its design-led engineering team. This role would suit someone early in their career, or with a small amount of industry experience, who is keen to work on technically challenging, high-performance engineering projects. The consultancy delivers precision-engineered solutions across complex mechanical systems and is particularly interested in candidates from high-tech automotive environments, including electric hypercars, motorsport, advanced EV platforms or similarly fast-paced engineering sectors.

The Role

This position sits at the core of the business and is heavily focused on mechanical design. You will contribute to multidisciplinary engineering programmes as well as take ownership of smaller, self-contained projects, supporting designs from concept through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the design and development of precision mechanical systems from concept to delivery.
  • Translating customer and project requirements into robust, innovative design solutions.
  • Producing high-quality CAD models, detailed drawings and supporting technical documentation.
  • Supporting design reviews and implementing feedback to improve design quality.
  • Collaborating closely with engineers, suppliers and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Managing time effectively to meet project milestones and delivery expectations.
  • Ensuring all design work aligns with relevant industry standards and internal quality processes.

About You

Skills & Experience

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Mechanical design experience within automotive, motorsport, aerospace, defence or other high-performance engineering sectors.
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical systems, mechanisms and materials.
  • Ability to apply engineering first principles to solve complex problems.
  • Experience with CATIA V5 / 3DEXPERIENCE is advantageous but not essential.
