This is a full-time hybrid role based in London, with flexibility for remote work.

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join our UK-based finance team in a lean, fast-growing international retail environment. Reporting directly to the Head of Global Finance, this role will take ownership of the general ledger, month-end close and financial reporting across key areas of the business. This is a hands-on role requiring someone comfortable working directly in the accounting system, preparing journals, performing reconciliations, and producing management accounts while ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the financial records. The position works closely with AP and AR support functions but retains responsibility for the overall accuracy of the books and the quality of financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and oversee the general ledger
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepayments and intercompany transactions
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary
  • Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies
Month-End & Year-End Close
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure timely completion of all close activities and reporting deliverables
  • Maintain strong cut-off procedures and financial controls
  • Support group reporting and consolidation requirements where needed
Inventory & Retail Accounting
  • Manage accounting for inventory in a retail and wholesale environment, including:
  • Inventory cut-off and GRNI
  • Stock provisions and slow-moving inventory analysis
  • Reconciliation between CIN7, warehouse reports and the general ledger
  • Work closely with operations and logistics teams on stock movements and inventory accuracy
  • Support accounting for international logistics and inventory flows
VAT & Indirect Taxes
  • Support VAT accounting and reporting across European operations
  • Review import VAT, customs duties and cross-border transactions
  • Liaise with external VAT advisors where required
  • Ensure appropriate VAT treatment of international trading activities
Statutory Reporting & Audit
  • Prepare schedules supporting annual statutory financial statements
  • Respond to audit queries
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years' accounting experience
  • Strong experience with general ledger accounting and full month-end close
  • Proven hands-on experience preparing journals and reconciliations
  • Solid understanding of inventory accounting
  • Experience supporting statutory accounts and external audits
  • Good understanding of European VAT
  • Comfortable working in a lean finance team where ownership and execution are required
  • Existing right to work in the UK
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience with CIN7 inventory system
  • Experience using Xero
  • Experience in retail, wholesale or inventory-driven businesses
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACCA / ACA / CIMA or equivalent)
