LIVE IN HOUSEKEEPER JOB in Kilmarnock

Perfect Household Staff is seeking a full-time, live-in housekeeper for a permanent position in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The role is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, supporting an elderly gentleman who is active, independent, and living alone, but who would benefit from practical assistance with day-to-day routines and the general upkeep of his home. The principal requires support rather than personal care, and the tone of the role is respectful, calm, and professional.

A degree of flexibility with availability may occasionally be required, which would always be discussed and agreed in advance. The position is based in a very old, character property with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, although only part of the house is in regular use, including two main living areas. A part-time cleaner is already employed and covers the heavier cleaning tasks such as bathrooms and floors; however, the housekeeper will still be responsible for light and ongoing housekeeping duties, including laundry, ironing, dusting, tidying living areas, maintaining order, and ensuring the home is comfortable and well presented on a daily basis.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Assisting the principal with daily routines
• Driving him to medical appointments, outings, shopping trips, and local errands
• Occasional cooking, preparing simple and traditional British meals
• General household support such as lighting the fire, overseeing the smooth running of the home, managing supplies, and maintaining a practical and safe living environment
• Occasional assistance in the large garden, though gardening is not a formal requirement

The successful candidate must be a confident driver with their own car, which will be used for work-related duties. Accommodation is provided in a separate, self-contained flat with its own entrance, one bedroom, one bathroom, a lounge, and dedicated parking. This position would suit a reliable, organised, and practical housekeeper who is comfortable working independently, enjoys supporting an older principal, and is looking for a stable, long-term role in a peaceful rural setting.

Live In Housekeeper duties may include:

• Providing day-to-day support to the elderly principal with routine household matters
• Maintaining the home through ongoing housekeeping, including laundry, ironing, dusting, and general tidying
• Ensuring all living areas are kept clean, orderly, and comfortable at all times
• Collaborating with a part-time cleaner who undertakes the more physically demanding cleaning tasks
• Preparing simple, traditional British meals on an occasional basis
• Driving the principal to medical appointments, social engagements, and local outings
• Running household errands, including shopping and accompanying the principal when required
• Managing household supplies and maintaining appropriate stock levels
• Lighting and maintaining the fire as required
• Assisting with general household tasks to support the smooth and efficient running of the property
• Offering occasional assistance to the gardener if willing, though this is not a formal requirement
• Demonstrating flexibility with availability when required, with any additional time agreed in advance

Requirements for this Full-Time Housekeeper job:

• 3 years of housekeeper experience
• Proven experience supporting an elderly principal
• Strong all-round housekeeping skills
• Confident and competent driver with a full UK driving licence
• Access to and willingness to use a personal car for work-related duties
• Ability to prepare simple, traditional meals on an occasional basis
• Fluent in English
• Checkable references
