We’re looking for a Platform Engineer with an interest in system architecture to support and evolve our Azure-based platform. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining and improving platform services while contributing to system design decisions and delivery of platform application changes.
What you’ll be doing:
- Support, maintain, and enhance Azure-based platform services to ensure performance and reliability.
- Implement platform changes and configurations to support business needs and future growth.
- Assist in designing scalable and secure solutions, working with senior engineers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, acting as an escalation point when needed.
- Contribute to integration of internal and third-party systems, including data platforms (e.g. Databricks).
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational metrics.
- Follow and promote best practices, standards, and governance across platform environments.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Your skills and experience:
- You’ll have worked in roles with practical experience operating and supporting cloud-based platforms, particularly within Azure environments.
- You’ll have great ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues across distributed and multi-system architectures.
- Experience working within SaaS or multi-component environments, understanding dependencies between systems.
- We are looking for someone with a foundational understanding of system design principles, including scalability, reliability, and security.
- Awareness of cost optimisation and performance considerations in cloud environments would be nice to have.
- For this role, you will need to have very strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective engagement across engineering and non-technical teams.
- We’ll be looking for you to show the ability and mindset to learn, adapt, and grow into broader architectural responsibilities.
Technical capabilities:
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including core services, configuration, and environment management.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or data processing tasks.
- Working knowledge of ADF and Databricks and broader data platform concepts.
- Understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles (e.g., Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates).
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Knowledge of cloud security fundamentals, including identity management and access control (e.g., Azure AD, RBAC).
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Application Insights) to support platform reliability.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
- Exposure to data platforms and processing frameworks (e.g., Databricks or similar).
- Familiarity with integration patterns between internal systems and third-party services.
- Experience contributing to or working alongside architecture or design functions.
- Understanding of monitoring, observability, and operational metrics to drive platform improvements.

This is a hybrid role, and we’ll expect you to work from our Bloomsbury or Newcastle Upon Tyne office for some of your time each week – your manager will set expectations for this with you.
