The Role

The Geophysical Data Technologist will provide a wide range of technical support to the London Geoscience and Exploration teams. His/her primary responsibility will be the administration of the geophysical database and associated applications.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively with the data management and applications support team within the geosciences department.
  • Load and transfer seismic and well data to, from and between Petrel, Kingdom databases and other relevant applications as required by business needs.
  • Assist geophysicists and geoscientists by handling the data load they need to perform their duties and by offering them the appropriate level application support.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and verifications of complete data set acquisitions to ensure accuracy and consistency, while adhering to management's guidelines and directives.
  • Load, transfer, and manage data across various databases and applications.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external service companies to oversee software usage and licensing whilst providing technical support as needed.
  • Assist with the administration, manipulation of geophysical data, and project templates & reference projects creation under direction.
  • Review, correct and repair existing projects and databases.
  • Facilitate the conversion of acquisition data to the company’s format and standards by clearly briefing the providers of our requirements (with management support) and thoroughly spot checking the data conversions performed by the providers.

Qualification / Experience / Specification

Essential:

  • A degree in sciences, engineering, mathematics or related field
  • Proficient with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrates a robust capability to master new software and methodologies, coupled with a strong desire to advance a career in data management.
  • Exceptional attention to details and careful approach to work.
  • Knowledge of data management, data clean-up, quality control and data loading.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, supporting the quality of data entry that underpins the work of Geophysicists and Geologists.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a technical support or data management role
  • A degree in geosciences, or the equivalent experience
  • Cross-discipline knowledge within the subsurface domain (Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Petrophysics, Wells etc.)
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SQL, Python and additional programming languages and tools
