The Role
We are seeking a motivated Data Analyst Intern to support our global operations. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with databases, develop analytical solutions, and contribute to data-driven decision-making within petroleum operations.
You will collaborate closely with the Production Data Analyst to help maintain database integrity, contribute to application development, build Power BI dashboards, and optimize data workflows. This role offers valuable exposure to data lifecycle management, large-scale data administration, and business intelligence within an industry setting.
Tasks & responsibilities:
- Support SQL database queries for data loading and data extraction.
- Assist with data preprocessing in Python, including data cleaning, transformation, and quality control.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Support data quality checks and anomaly checks across databases.
- Collaborate with technical teams to translate geoscience requirements into effective data solutions.
- Document data processes and support ongoing database optimization initiatives.
Qualification / Experience / Specification
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Data Science, or related STEM field.
- Strong SQL skills in writing complex queries (Joins, Sub-queries, CTE, etc…).
- Proficiency in Excel and Power BI (DAX, data modelling, visualization).
- Familiarity using Python for its big data capabilities (Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, etc…).
- Comfortable using Github for version control.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Analytical mindset with solid problem-solving abilities.
- General knowledge of Snowflake and dbt is a plus.
- Interest in learning about the petroleum industry (prior O&G knowledge is advantageous but not required).
