Perenco UK is a leading operator that encourages engineers to innovate and prioritise operations. The company partners with local training providers to offer a 3-year Apprenticeship Programme to aspiring engineers. The first 20 weeks are spent at the training centre in Norwich, followed by on-site experience with mentors to develop technical and personal skills.
Apprenticeship Programme
- Foundation training includes:
- Health & Safety workshop behaviours
- Hand tools and traditional engineering techniques
- Working with and understanding technical documentation
- Specialist Mechanical training including: Mechanical Maintenance; Actuators, fans, pumps and valves
On-site Experience and Development
- Work alongside site teams and gain hands-on experience to apply learned knowledge
- Assigned a mentor to oversee development and provide career insights
- Complete scheduled trade maintenance activities as per the maintenance management system
- Perform maintenance to company standards and procedures, minimising production impact and maximising plant availability
- Raise relevant permits within the agreed time frame and generate new work requests to highlight plant and equipment failure
- Manage and maintain trade inventory of critical spares and stock equipment to minimise downtime
- Support project activity and work with vendors and subcontractors as required
- Develop and review operational and maintenance procedures
- Comply with and pursue requirements of Change Management Policies (e.g., Plant Modification Proposals)
- Employ Perenco Observation Safety Techniques (POST) to report unsafe acts
Programme Progression and Schedule
- Perenco sponsors apprentices to begin a Level 4 HNC specific to their trade in Year 3 following completion of the Level 3 Extended Diploma.
- Initially, apprentices work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week on site. When competent and allocated to a team, they will move to 7 days on, 7 days off, 12-hour shifts.

- A genuine desire and passion for engineering
- Grade 4 in Maths and English
- Driving licence is required or to be worked towards during the initial college phase
