We are seeking a Service Designer to join Peregrine, supporting the Home Office on the Goods X-Ray Scanning Transformation (GXRST) Programme - a flagship initiative to modernise the UK’s border screening capabilities. As a Service Designer, you will play a key role in improving complex operational and digital services, delivering end to end service design within a challenging and evolving environment. You will focus on creating seamless, user centred services that balance critical national security requirements with the efficient and legitimate movement of people and goods.
Responsibilities:
- Develop service design concepts with service managers and programme leaders
- Lead or contribute across complex, end to end services - both operational change and technical projects
- Use evidence and user insight to inform key design decisions
- Streamlining end-to-end user journeys for both frontline staff (e.g., border officers and caseworkers) and citizens
- Collaborate across teams and engage stakeholders in different operational settings
- Occasionally travel to alternative sites, including operational locations
Skills & Experience:
- Strong end to end service design experience within complex, multi stakeholder environments
- Proven experience working within Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and frameworks
- Hands on delivery across GDS agile lifecycle, particularly Beta and Live services
- Ability to use research and data to inform design decisions and shape service outcomes
- Experience designing inclusive, accessible services in line with accessibility standards
- Confident communicating complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence and challenge constructively
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams including product, delivery and policy
- Ability to apply iterative design approaches, including prototyping and continuous improvement
- Experience leading or mentoring others and promoting user centred design best practice
Desirable skills:
- Experience designing services within border, customs or goods movement environments, ideally with exposure to Border Force
- Active SC clearance would be preferred but you must be eligible for SC clearance to be considered.
