Estate Groundsman

Job Overview:

We are seeking a reliable and hard-working Rural Estate Groundsman to assist with the maintenance and care of an ever evolving private rural estate. The role involves assisting in the day-to-day upkeep of the estate\’s grounds, woodland areas, paths, fencing, and general estate infrastructure. This is a hands-on role requiring practical skills and a genuine interest in estate upkeep and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Grounds Maintenance:

  • Mowing lawns, strimming, spraying and maintaining pathways and driveways.
  • Upkeep of fences, gates, drainage systems, and hard landscaping features.
  • Pond maintenance.
  • General repair and maintenance work around the estate.

Woodland Management:

  • Assisting with woodland upkeep including tree planting, pruning, and felling (as trained and required).
  • Managing undergrowth and ensuring woodland paths are clear and safe.
  • Supporting conservation and biodiversity efforts on the estate.

Machinery & Tools:

  • Safe operation and basic maintenance of machinery such as mowers, strimmers, chainsaws, and tractors.
  • Ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored, maintained, and accounted for.

Candidate profile:

Essential:

  • Previous experience in grounds keeping or estate maintenance.
  • Plant and machinery experience.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and respectful of the privacy of the estate and its residents.
  • Chainsaw certificate (e.g., NPTC, LANTRA).
  • PA1 and PA6.

Working Hours:

Typically Monday to Friday with weekend rota for certain activities.
