The Percy Hedley Foundation has three main sites providing specialist education, adult day services, and residential care to our service users. Please note: due to the current demands of the service, this requirement is for female staff only in order to provide support to female residents. We are seeking a Support Worker with a passion for helping people to join our team at Tyne House on a permanent basis. Tyne House is a residential site with 10 specialist rooms, offering tailored and positive support to individuals with specific and complex needs within our adapted-for-purpose building, based in Jesmond, Newcastle.
As part of the team at Tyne House, you will support residents with hearing impairments in their ongoing development and daily living. Your role involves ensuring residents' needs are met by following support plans and providing practical and emotional care to enable further independence and achieve positive outcomes. Residents communicate through BSL, VOCA's, word boards, print symbols, and pictures. Successful candidates will encourage and promote effective communication for all residents. You will support residents with daily household tasks such as shopping, cooking, tidying, and washing. The role also includes administering medications and supporting with personal care tasks. There may be times when residents need support managing behaviours of concern, and training will be provided where needed.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the community, and staff support them to access social events and activities such as visiting the local pub, deaf community groups, bowling, and swimming. This is a high-energy, friendly service focused on delivering high standards of person-centred care. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, a good sense of humour, and a solid understanding of positive behaviour support. Applicants should have previous experience in a care setting and understand the importance of routine and structure for residents. A commitment to inspiring and positively impacting residents' lives is essential.
