We are looking to appoint a BSL Independent Living Support Worker. This is an exciting opportunity to help build our BSL ISL provision and provide excellent support. Candidates must complete and pass British Sign Language Level 1. Training will be provided and consists of approximately three 10‑week modules, 3 hours per week.

The property is a 2 bedroom home located in a residential area in Newcastle, a short walk from the City Centre, St James Park, the Town Moor and Leazes Park as well as local transport services which opens up the whole of the North East to the people we support. There is also parking available. The role is to support 2 young men in their first home following college completion. You will support them to find new opportunities, build relationships, and improve quality of life. Responsibilities include all aspects of daily living, community placement and personal care. One young person has seizure activity that is primarily nocturnal and may exhibit escalated or self‑injurious behaviours. The other has a dysphagia need with an IDDSI Level 6 soft and bite‑sized diet.

We offer mandatory and role‑specific training to meet these individuals’ needs and support continuous career development.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and are not eligible for sponsorship.
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and experience supporting autistic people with challenging behaviour.
  • Motivation to complete the BSL qualification while employed.
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, positive outlook and desire to help people achieve their goals.
  • Great team player, flexible, organised and able to work with multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving situations with a person‑centred approach.
  • Capability to manage behaviours of concern and apply training where required.
