Hello! Thanks for checking out our job posting for the role of Head of Finance at PerchPeek. You’ve already taken a tiny step towards being a part of our team—huzzah! We know that taking your next career step is as exciting as it can be exhausting. So, with that in mind, we’ve tried to keep our description simple and cliché-free to help you decide if PerchPeek and this role are a good match for you.

Who and What is PerchPeek?

At PerchPeek we dream of a borderless world where people have the freedom to live and work where they please. Where ideas and resources flow where they’re most needed unrestricted by national borders. We strive to create a world of opportunity for everyone, anywhere – one move at a time .

We’re building a streamlined Mobility ecosystem to empower businesses and individuals to move anywhere in the world. We support employers and employees through every stage of the relocation process, providing an affordable, scalable, high-value service, powered by technology and relocation expertise.

Have you ever relocated? If so, you probably know how overwhelming it can be—immigration hoops, tax implications, housing, shipping, utilities, banking…the list goes on. No matter where in the world you go, relocating is complicated, time-intensive, and stressful. PerchPeek was conceived to change that.

For relocators, our goal is to guide them through every step of their move with a delightful mix of tech, coaching, content, and partnerships which work together to make relocating simpler, faster, and more fun.

For employers, we streamline the entire process of supporting international Mobility into one easy-to-use platform, turning Mobility into a strategic advantage for thriving globally.

Now you know why we’re so passionate about what we do!

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and versatile Head of Finance who is energised by the challenges of a high-growth and already global startup. Whilst the role will initially mean you’re the sole finance team member, we’re looking for you to quickly lead on building a world-class finance function and quickly make your first supporting hire (and until you do, our operations team and external accountants have got your back!).

Given the end-to-end nature of this role, whilst you’ll be responsible for delivering on the core finance processes (AR, AP, MAs etc), you will have the opportunity (and should be hungry!) to drive process and technology improvements that scale the finance function and create watertight accuracy. You’ll also need to be highly collaborative on 2 key fronts: 1) You will advise and work closely with the C-level team on analysing the business and presenting at the Board level. 2) Finance is actually a service we provide to clients, so you’ll need to engage with our Product and Operations teams to help connect the dots and drive value for our clients. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual who’s not afraid to take on something big.

Responsibilities

Here is what we see as the role’s main responsibilities:

  • Management Accounts – Prepare monthly management accounts and year-end accounts with supporting analysis. Managing and working with, where necessary, our external accountants. Implementing new accounting standards and best practices.
  • Process Improvement, Automations & Tooling – Implement 3rd party tools, automations and process improvements to improve scalability of financial processes and accounting practices. (This aspect will significantly be supported by the Snr RevOps & Financial Systems Manager)
  • FP&A – Maintain and enhance the accuracy of the financial model and regularly report on variance to budget. Work with the executive team on financial scenario planning and budgeting consequences.
  • Internal controls & financial policies – Setting up or improving internal policies and establishing relevant financial controls and procedures to implement policies i.e. develop and maintain suitable processes and controls for client-related control accounts.
  • Treasury & Cash Management – Monitor cash flows, forecast future cash needs, and optimize working capital.
  • Global Compliance & Tax – Fulfill statutory and tax obligations in collaboration with external accountants across the range of global entities, including R&D tax grants.
  • Finance Team Development
    • Owning the finance organisation scaling and development to meet business needs by monitoring and spotting changing financial needs of the business, blockers and where the financial department needs to prioritise time.
    • Hiring and management of additional team member/s. Includes skills development, managing workload, quality assurance of outputs and overall performance management.

Initially will own, until junior team member is hired:

  • Bookkeeping Process – as standard, and including identifying and implementing technical solution and improvements to existing processes.
  • Financial BAU Processes – including accounts receivable and payable, payroll & benefits processing.
  • Client Finance Processes – Manage the client & customer payment process in accordance with policies. Streamline and optimize the payment process where possible.

Collaborate on:

  • Revenue Operations – with operations and commercial teams – to improve accuracy and automation of revenue processes.
  • KPI & Board Reporting – with operations and executive teams – to meet reporting needs for both internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of investors.
  • Fundraising & Investors Relations – with the CEO – to explore capital funding options and prepare fundraising financial materials.
  • Global Entity Establishments – with operations – assessing global entity needs for optimal accounting and client delivery purposes. Research and establish new entities as required.

Requirements

The type of person we think will be awesome at this will likely have the following range of qualities and experience:

  • Minimum 7 years PQE Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) and strong technical accounting knowledge.
  • International Experience – Worked and managed processes across multiple entities.
  • Fluency in using Xero as the accounting system.
  • Worked in a startup/scaleup environment across a range of finance functions and understands the pace and dynamics.
  • Proven experience in setting up or improving tech-enabled financial processes in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Ideally, you have created or developed a financial model and provided associated analysis.
  • An Autonomous Self Starter – Driven to set and deliver against deadlines. You balance thoughtful and clear thinking with responding quickly and doing the right thing at pace.
  • Strong Analytical Thinking Capability – Logical and quick processing skills, the ability to synthesise and interpret financial data and provide business context informed insights in order to support strategic decision-making.
  • Pair of Hawk Eyes. Detailed oriented and clinical, whilst working in a fast-paced environment. You produce high quality and accurate work.
  • Highly Organised – Able to balance multiple spinning plates by being able to prioritise tasks, manage projects, and allocate time according to business objectives.
  • Unrelenting Performance Standards. Ready to be in the weeds and proactively drive performance through a mindset of continuous improvement and a genuine belief that there’s always a lesson to be learnt.
  • Forward Thinking – Intellectual horsepower to continuously stay ahead and confident to own decisions with an element of risk.
