The investment arm of a market leading financial services company is expanding. With over £1 billion assets under management, we are committed to delivering innovative solutions and driving business growth through data. With a strong focus on adopting the latest technologies, we are transitioning our data infrastructure from hosted SQL Server to a modern cloud-based environment on Azure.

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our Engineering team with the primary focus of providing technical support to the Investment & Decision Science teams driving investment and analytical decisions.

You will play a crucial role in providing technical and analytical solutions to challenges faced by the investment team operating at the heart of the investment process, supporting our migration to cloud technologies and assisting with any future applications of AI-driven technologies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in traditional data engineering skills while being able to adapt to modern tools such as Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Databricks, with Python as the primary coding language. This role requires hands-on experience with database design, ETL development, data integration, and a passion for data quality and governance.

🗓 So, what will your day-to-day look like?

  • Data Best Practices: Ensure best practices are followed in data creation, management, and database performance.
  • Data Solution Design: Translate high-level data solutions into detailed low-level designs and work packages and supporting the production of analytical outputs , operational insights and visualisations to be utilised by the investment team.
  • ETL Development: Build and manage high-quality, secure, and governed ETL processes using on-premise and cloud-based data sources.
  • Data Quality & Monitoring: Design data observability and quality checks into all ETL processes, enabling proactive identification of discrepancies.
  • Performance Optimisation: Optimise data platforms, ETL processes, and database solutions for reusability and performance.
  • Financial Calculations: Writing robust and repeatable formulae, prescribed by the Investment team to calculate a range of valuation metrics, to be referenced by the investment team throughout the valuation and decision making process (examples including IRR’s, NPV’s and ROI’s).

👆Does this sound like you?

  • 3+ years of experience designing and deploying business data ETL packages and data-based systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, T-SQL, and other traditional Microsoft SQL Stack technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A solid understanding of data quality and governance practices.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in teams, demonstrating strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure tools such as Azure Data Factory, Power BI, Data Pipelines, and Data Lake.
  • Experience with Azure Data Lake and Delta Lake design pattern implementation, including file hierarchy and low-level permissions management (desirable).
  • Experience in building CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps with managed identity (desirable).

The Application Timeline

  • A second stage introductory video call with the hiring manager (30 minutes)
  • A face to face formal interview with the hiring manager (60 minutes)
