Working within a small, supportive team forming part of our Clinical Operations group, your brief will be comprehensive, supporting the range of activities necessary to deliver effective Imaging/Experimental Medicine studies. The research context means that you'll typically be performing a lower volume of longer, more complex scans than is normally associated with healthcare diagnostics/therapeutics. Strongly self-motivated and comfortable working flexibly across a Monday-Friday scanning schedule, you'll be supported in taking advantage of the significant professional development opportunities this provides, including cross-training on relevant equipment as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- To safely and efficiently perform high quality PET scans.
- Perform the day-to-day scanning of PET patients with no supervision if required and ensure that high quality data is produced in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ensure high standards of ICH/GCP compliance and patient care are maintained.
- Safe collection and handling of human biological samples: Carry out arterial and venous blood sampling, identifying issues and troubleshooting as needed.
- Safe handling of radioactivity and working safely around radioactive subjects: Participate in and oversee the safe handling of radioactive sources in the PET area including the dispensing of and, where required, the administration of radiopharmaceuticals to subjects.
- Safe operation of scanning and ancillary equipment: Carry out QC on all PET equipment according to the relevant SOPs, notifying Senior/Lead PET Technologist/Physics of equipment problems.
- Working in an MR Environment: Ability to work in all modalities (PET/CT, PET/MR and MRI) required, training provided where needed.
- Flexible working pattern to cover scheduled scans and scan schedule adjustments: Late scanning may occur due to radiotracer delays, willingness to adapt to scheduling needs required.
Functional Competencies (Technical knowledge/Skills)
- Complete PET Competency Assessments, which include practical assessments to ensure competency in PET-related duties.
- Work with Senior/Lead PET Technologists to ensure that scan-critical stock levels are adequately maintained and escalate any issues to Senior/Lead PET Technologists.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the PET area.
- Read and understand relevant SOPs.
- Perform internal audits where assigned and assist in preparing for external audits.
- Perform PET quality related actions, including deviations and self-audit, in a timely manner, in order to comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure new study protocols are reviewed and PET related documents are prepared in a timely manner.
- Participate in PET team meetings and ensure effective communication with the rest of the PET team.
- Accurately carry out tasks on the RIS and VNA systems necessary to complete PET exams.
- Stay current and maintain mandatory continuous professional development and accreditation as a professional.
- Have an understanding of the company business strategy.
- Identify, mitigate and escalate risks and issues to Lead PET Technologist. Raise deviations when needed and assist the Lead Research PET Technologist in carrying out investigations relating to deviations where necessary.
