We are partnering with a leading venture capital investor to hire a Head of Finance to oversee both management company and fund finance functions. This is the first dedicated finance hire for the business, joining the firm during an exciting period of growth. Reporting to the COO and working closely with senior management, the Head of Finance will lead the finance function, driving operational efficiency, process improvements, and strategic financial insight across the group and fund operations. This high-impact role carries full responsibility for all finance activities, ensuring excellence in financial operations, reporting, and controls. The role involves close collaboration with senior stakeholders, including partners and investment teams, acting as a strategic business partner. You will play a pivotal role in scaling and developing the finance function, with broad exposure across all group and fund finance activities.
What the job involves:
- Lead and manage all aspects of group and fund finance functions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across the business.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external accountants, service providers, limited partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of statutory and management financial reporting to internal teams, external parties, and regulatory authorities.
- Take full ownership of financial reporting, payroll, VAT, and tax compliance.
- Develop and enhance internal financial reporting processes and manage quarterly reporting cycles, including fund reporting, valuations, and investor communications.
- Coordinate the preparation and review of investment valuation papers for internal valuation meetings and ensure transparent, accurate, and timely communication on fund performance.
- Review and manage capital calls, distributions, and other fund documentation.
- Oversee payment runs and manage intercompany recharge processes.
- Manage budgets, management accounts, and liquidity across the group and funds.
- Lead annual audits and liaise with auditors to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Support fundraising activities with accurate financial analysis and reporting.
- Design, implement, and refine accounting, reporting, and financial control processes to drive operational excellence.
- Drive process and systems improvements, including automation and technology initiatives, to streamline financial operations.
- Oversee the adoption and effective use of portfolio monitoring systems.
- Identify and mitigate risks that could adversely impact financial performance and reporting.
Who we are looking for:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Proven experience in a fund finance role within venture capital or private equity is essential.
- Familiarity with listed entity accounting and reporting is desirable.
- Strong understanding of valuation methodologies, portfolio performance, fund structures, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience implementing new systems and processes and driving adoption of technology and automation to support business growth.
- Comfortable managing audits, statutory accounts, and internal controls.
- Acts as a bridge between finance and operations, providing insights to support decision-making.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to present complex financial information clearly and work collaboratively across different areas of the firm.
- Highly detail-oriented, organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Innovative, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented with strong problem-solving ability.
