We are partnering with an established deep-tech venture capital investor that operates at the intersection of deep-tech, security and defence technologies. The fund is well-capitalised with a strong mandate, and is now entering a new phase of growth with increased deployment and an expanding team. The fund is looking for a CIO to lead both direct investments and select strategic fund-investments.

The existing portfolio is strong (spanning AI, quantum, space, and other frontier technologies), and it has a highly differentiated network, access to a strong pipeline of opportunities, with a meaningful track record of backing companies from early stage through to exit. This is a senior leadership role within a high-impact fund, offering the chance to shape investment strategy, lead a talented team, and drive a portfolio with genuine real-world significance.

What the job involves:

  • Senior leadership position with full ownership of investment activity across direct and fund-of-fund strategies
  • Shaping and implementing investment strategy, including asset allocation, thesis development, and portfolio construction
  • Leading end-to-end deal execution - from pipeline development and due diligence through to Investment Committee and deployment
  • Overseeing fund investment activities including manager selection, diligence, and LP engagement
  • Strategic oversight of a diverse, multi-stage portfolio including performance monitoring, risk management, and exits
  • Representing the fund externally across the UK and internationally
  • Building and developing a high-performing investment team as the fund scales
  • Managing key institutional relationships and stakeholder reporting
  • Overseeing governance, Investment Committee processes, and board-level reporting requirements

Who we are looking for:

  • Significant investment experience within a venture capital fund, CVC, or relevant fund management environment
  • Demonstrable track record managing a complex, multi-stage portfolio of private capital investments, including exits
  • Strong analytical and strategic mindset with sound judgement across risk and early-stage opportunity
  • Exceptional communicator, confident with senior stakeholders and in public-facing settings
  • Collaborative, values-driven leader capable of developing a team through a period of growth and change
  • Sector expertise in deep technology is advantageous; experience in mission-driven or strategic investment contexts a plus

This is a compelling opportunity for a senior investment professional to take on a high-impact leadership role, deploying meaningful capital and building a world-class portfolio at a genuinely pivotal moment.
