OVERVIEW

The Application Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and work closely with departments including Sales, Design, Purchasing and Production. The role will also involve regular communication with suppliers and customers.

The Application Engineer will provide pre-sales support by bridging the gap between Engineering and Sales.

The role will act as a technical subject matter expert, working with customers to understand their needs, propose technical solutions and develop system architectures.

The successful candidate will generate technical specifications and associated documentation to enable the Sales team to prepare accurate quotations. They will also work closely with internal departments and managers to support the successful delivery of customer requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical

  • Create system architectures and technical content to support sales quotations while understanding customer needs
  • Generate technical specifications, 2D drawings and general assembly drawings based on customer requirements
  • Create product structures, Bills of Materials and routings within the ERP system to support the timely procurement of components
  • Ensure all necessary drawings are available and approved for each works order
  • Compile manuals and other technical documents for works orders
  • Release product structures in time for works order generation
  • Maintain supporting documentation and drawings for standard products
  • Communicate and follow up with customers, suppliers and internal departments
  • Translate complex engineering information into clear business value
  • Collaborate internally and provide technical feedback to Engineering and other departments
  • Obtain internal and external approval of engineering drawings and issue them to the relevant stakeholders
  • Support Engineering and Production in maintaining the library of standard parts
  • Generate configuration files based on the technical specification of charging equipment

Specification Management

  • Maintain records for customer orders within company systems
  • Manage and prioritise files awaiting specification

Document Systems

  • Maintain and monitor continuous improvement documentation
  • Control standard products through engineering change control and version control

Quality, Health, Safety and Environment

  • Maintain quality standards within relevant processes
  • Maintain health and safety standards within the working area
  • Maintain environmental standards within the working area

Key Performance Indicator

  • Support Engineering in achieving company on-time delivery objectives

  • ISO 9001:2015
  • ISO 14001:2015
  • Internal quality standards and processes

QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE

Desirable

  • UK Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience using 2D drawing software
  • Competence with Microsoft 365
  • Working knowledge of AC systems, including single-phase and three-phase systems
  • Working knowledge of DC systems, including 24V, 48V, 110V and 220V systems up to 350A
  • Understanding of electromagnetic compatibility best practice, including wiring-panel layout and signal segregation

SKILLS

  • Experience using 2D drawing software such as AutoCAD LT or EPLAN
  • Competence with Microsoft 365, including Excel and Word
  • Good numerical skills
  • Project and process management skills would be advantageous
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements
