Engineering Director – EV Charging & Power Electronics
UK | Hybrid
A growing EV charging technology business is looking to appoint an Engineering Director to lead the next stage of its technical development.
The company is developing charging and power conversion technology for commercial, fleet and infrastructure applications, with a growing customer base across the UK and wider Europe.
This is a broad engineering leadership role for someone who can combine technical depth with team leadership, product development and delivery.
The role
You will take responsibility for the engineering function and work closely with the wider leadership team on product development, technical strategy and future growth.
Your remit will include:
- Leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, electronics, power electronics and embedded systems.
- Setting the technical direction for future charging and power conversion products.
- Overseeing product development from concept through validation, certification and release.
- Developing engineering processes and technical standards as the business scales.
- Working closely with product, operations, manufacturing and commercial teams.
- Supporting supplier and manufacturing partner selection.
- Ensuring products meet relevant electrical, safety and regulatory requirements.
- Managing engineering budgets, priorities and resource planning.
- Building and developing the engineering team as demand increases.
- Supporting customer and partner discussions where senior technical input is required.
- Identifying future technology opportunities across EV charging and energy infrastructure.
Who we're looking for
We are interested in speaking with senior engineering leaders from:
- EV charging
- electrical equipment
- energy technology
- power conversion
You are likely to have:
- Strong engineering leadership experience.
- Good understanding of power electronics and electrical systems.
- Experience developing complex hardware products.
- Experience taking products through validation, certification and production.
- Leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacture and product lifecycle.
- Experience working with suppliers, manufacturing partners and external technical stakeholders.
- The ability to balance technical quality with commercial and delivery priorities.
- Experience recruiting and developing engineering talent.
Direct EV charging experience would be valuable, but we would also consider strong candidates from adjacent power electronics, energy or electrification markets.
The opportunity
This role comes with significant influence over how the engineering organisation develops.
The successful person will help shape:
- future product roadmap
- engineering team structure
- technical standards
- recruitment
It would suit someone who enjoys building teams and products rather than simply managing an established engineering function.
