People's Powerhouse was formed in 2017 as a response to the development of the Northern Powerhouse.

We bring people across the North of England together to shape the region’s future.

Through the annual ‘This Is The North’ convention and related events, we create inclusive spaces for residents, community and voluntary organisations and powerholders to collaborate and voice their priorities.

People's Powerhouse focuses on amplifying regional voices, strengthening civic participation, and building a fairer, more prosperous North.

We use a variety of methods including online and in-person gatherings to support diverse thinkers and practical action.

Role Description

The ‘This Is The North’ Convention 2026 will take place on 15th September in Scarborough Spa.

Much work has already taken place including confirming most of the contributors e. g. most of the panel members and workshop leaders, venue, catering and entertainment.

A Producer is now required to work alongside the staff team and to pick up the progress so far, taking it forward to delivery of the event.

Day‑to‑day tasks will include finalising the programme, timelines, budget and logistics; coordinating with speakers, partners, and overseeing/ ensuring that people can join the event online.

Other aspects will include the registration process, contributor and audience communications, arranging first aid cover and signage throughout the venue.

The role also includes drafting event materials, briefing participants, and collaborating with the team on outreach and marketing to maximise attendance and impact.

The Convention Producer will be the main point of contact on the day.

  • Experience producing conferences, conventions, or large-scale events (300+ attendees), including end-to-end planning, logistics, and delivery.
  • Strong skills in project management and coordination, with the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with remote work tools and digital event platforms (e. g., virtual conferencing software, registration systems, collaboration tools).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare agendas, briefings, and participant-facing materials.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, community-focused work and engaging people from diverse backgrounds and regions.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and make decisions in a fast‑moving, collaborative environment.
  • Experience in community organising, civic engagement, or social impact initiatives is highly beneficial.
  • Comfortable and confident liaising with elected representatives and high profile/ accomplished people.
  • Relevant education or equivalent experience in event management, communications, public affairs, or a related field
  • Must be able to travel to Scarborough easily and be prepared to go to the venue and work 'in person'.
