What you'll be doing:
The Product Design Lead will be responsible for establishing, developing, and embedding a best-in-class product design capability across the organisation. Leading and growing a high-performing team, you will own the end-to-end user experience across multiple customer-facing channels, ensuring solutions are aligned to the needs of distinct customer segments.
You will define and champion the Product Design vision, set UX standards and principles, and drive excellence in design execution. This includes overseeing an effective design governance framework, ensuring component-based design practices, robust user testing prior to development, and disciplined handover processes that enable consistent, high-quality delivery.
Working in close partnership with the Head of Customer Experience, you will play a key role in shaping the customer experience strategy while collaborating across the business to deliver impactful digital experiences. The role reports directly to the Head of Digital Experience & Capability.
- Line-manage and develop Product Designers and other UX specialists; set goals, coach performance, and run effective 1:1s and reviews.
- Chair/participate in design reviews; approve component proposals and ensure adherence to design governance.
- Set UX quality bars and measurable goals (e.g., task success, CSAT, conversion); ensure pre-build research and evaluation inform decisions.
- Source, brief and manage contractors/agencies; set standards, review outputs and ensure value-for-money delivery.
- Protect company IP, brand and system integrity when third parties contribute components or patterns.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary product design teams in an agile environment.
- Track record establishing/operating design governance and component-based design systems.
- Evidence of embedding pre-build research and usability evaluation; translating insights into product outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management and storytelling skills across senior audiences.
