What You’ll Be Doing
- Establish and manage a Platforms Engineering team that is effective, efficient, and proactive at provisioning platform engineering services.
- This role is critical in shaping and executing our cloud infrastructure strategy, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance across our systems.
- The role oversees teams responsible for Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Cloud Platforms, Environment management and Deployment Engineering, and Cloud Database Engineering, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure technologies.
- Define and execute the platform engineering strategy, organisation and standard operating procedures aligned with business goals and needs of the technology organisation.
- Drive innovation in cloud infrastructure, automation, and reliability practices to support agility and adoption of modern technologies to support business goals.
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams including SREs, cloud platform specialists, environment and deployment engineers, and database engineers.
- Define and manage technical release and maintenance processes of production applications, minimising impact on reliability.
- Generate regular reports on reliability metrics and the effectiveness of measures taken to improve such metrics.
- Apply SRE core tenets of measurement (SLI/SLO/SLA), eliminate toil, and perform reliability modelling.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a senior platform, infrastructure, or environment engineering leadership role.
- Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud services and architecture.
- Strong background in SRE principles, environment and deployment automation, and cloud-native technologies.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and monitoring stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor).
- Experience using Azure Monitor, App insights and KQL, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, AppDynamics, ELK Stack, Azure Log Analytics, Splunk, Fluentd, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Honeycomb.
- Alerting & Incident Management tools (e.g. PagerDuty, Opsgenie, VictorOps, ServiceNow, Azure Alerts).
- Synthetic Monitoring & APM tools (e.g. Pingdom, Uptrends, Dynatrace, ThousandEyes).
- Solid understanding of cloud database technologies and data engineering principles.
