White Goods Engineer

This is a permanent, site-based role where you'll use your technical expertise to train others while enjoying regular Monday to Friday hours, a competitive salary and excellent job security. No teaching qualification? No problem. We're looking for an experienced engineer, not an experienced teacher. We'll provide all the training and support you need to become a qualified Workshop Instructor.

About the Role

Based at HMP Millsike, you'll lead our White Goods Refurbishment Workshop, where donated appliances including washing machines, dishwashers, driers are repaired and refurbished for reuse via our charity partner within the local community. Working alongside prisoners, you'll teach practical repair techniques, appliance diagnostics and PAT Testing, helping learners gain valuable skills and recognised qualifications that improve their chances of employment on release. This is a genuinely rewarding opportunity to pass on your industry knowledge while making a real difference.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the White Goods Refurbishment Workshop.
• Teach learners how to safely diagnose, repair and refurbish domestic appliances.
• Supervise and support prisoners as they develop vocational and employability skills.
• Maintain high standards of quality, health, safety, security and workshop organisation.
• Ensure refurbished appliances meet required standards before reuse.
• Monitor learner progress and provide coaching and feedback.
• Liaise closely with our charity partner to arrange deliveries and collections.
• Work closely with colleagues to support rehabilitation and positive outcomes.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in experienced engineers who have:

• Experience repairing and maintaining domestic white goods and appliances.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across a range of domestic appliances.
• The ability to motivate, coach and share knowledge with others.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety and security.
• Teaching, assessing or prison experience is not essential.

If you have the technical knowledge and a willingness to help others learn, we'll provide the training needed to become a successful Workshop Instructor.
