We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Bike Tutor to plan, organise, and deliver engaging cycle maintenance and repair training programmes up to Level 2. The successful candidate will support learners in developing practical cycle mechanics skills while promoting safe working practices, employability skills, and personal development. Working as part of a wider education and training team, you will contribute to a high-quality learning environment that enables learners to achieve vocational qualifications and progress towards further training or employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise, and deliver vocational, competency-based cycle mechanics training programmes up to Level 2 in line with awarding body standards and qualification requirements.
  • Develop and contribute to Schemes of Work and lesson plans to ensure delivery meets quality standards and curriculum objectives.
  • Assess learner progress and maintain accurate records in line with organisational policies and awarding body requirements.
  • Support the development and review of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and identify any additional learner support needs.
  • Ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of all learners at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with Functional Skills Tutors and Learning Support Practitioners to embed literacy, language, numeracy, and employability skills within the programme.
  • Maintain learner records accurately and securely in accordance with data protection legislation and organisational procedures.
  • Complete learner enrolment, assessment, and compliance documentation accurately and within required timescales.
  • Support quality assurance activities, including internal quality assurance (IQA), moderation, and awarding body requirements.
  • Promote health and safety best practice within the workshop environment and ensure learners adhere to safe working procedures.
  • Signpost learners to relevant support services and progression opportunities where appropriate.
  • Participate in continuing professional development activities to maintain occupational competency and teaching practice.
  • Contribute to reporting requirements and stakeholder communications as required.

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years' industry experience in cycle mechanics, bicycle repair, engineering, or a related vocational field.
  • Strong practical knowledge of bicycle maintenance, diagnostics, servicing, and repair.
  • Willingness to achieve a recognised teaching qualification (such as PTLLS/AET) within 6 months of appointment.
  • Commitment to gaining a subject-specific qualification enabling delivery of accredited cycle mechanics training up to Level 2 within 2 years.
  • Commitment to achieving an Assessor Award required by relevant awarding bodies within 12 months.
  • Hold a minimum Level 1 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy, or be willing to achieve these qualifications within 12 months.
  • Excellent communication and learner engagement skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and comply with quality assurance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Recognised qualification in Cycle Mechanics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline at Level 2 or above.
  • Teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, CET, or equivalent).
  • Assessor Award (TAQA, A1, or equivalent).
  • Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) qualification or willingness to achieve one.
  • Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Experience delivering vocational training, apprenticeships, or adult learning programmes.
  • Experience working with learners from diverse backgrounds and supporting individuals with additional learning needs.
