Personal Assistant to support a 9 year old boy with a dual diagnosis of Downs Syndrome and Autism in Stockport SK4. He is at the beginning of his speaking journey and understands much more than he can say. He needs prompting for personal care and some support using the toilet. He is mobile and can walk for upwards of 30 minutes but may need rest breaks. Support is required during term time for after-school support and either whole day or half day support during school holidays. Driver with transport is highly advisable as he does not attend his local school.

Experience and training:

  • Experience with children who have Down Syndrome and autism
  • Safety in and outdoors
  • Intimate care (dignified)
  • Willingness to make it a comprehensive and creative time together, after school, to enhance independence and social skills

Hours and rate of pay:

  • After school support x2 days per week (Tuesday and Weds preferable but days are negotiable) each day
  • £15 per hour, with potential for this to be £17 - £18 per hour
  • Expenses for Daniel paid by family
  • Mileage paid at £0.45 per mile by family

Start Date: August or September 2025

Main Duties:

  • Collect from school
  • Spend time in the community

  • Support using toilet and possible changing in case of accidents

Personal Assistant Specification:

  • Enhanced DBS is required
  • My assistant must be honest, trustworthy, kind, reliable and patient
  • My assistant must respect my privacy and always maintain my dignity
  • My assistant must help to build my independence while providing support where needed
  • My assistant must be enthusiastic and be ready to spend lots of time outdoors as this is how I best self-regulate
  • My assistant should always give me choices and ask my opinion
  • My assistant must think carefully about how much information I am given at any one time
  • My assistant must have a good work ethic, not a 'charitable attitude'
