Here at People Plus, we are looking for an outstanding SENCO lead to join our regional SENCO team covering prison sites across London. The successful candidate will be strategically responsible for overseeing and assuring the quality of additional learning needs provision across the London Education teams. They will provide regional oversight as well as providing expert advice and guidance to specific Education sites for complex SEND prisoners. They must be knowledgeable of, and committed to, promoting inclusive practice, driving improvement and have a proven track of improving SEND learner outcomes. The successful candidate will have or be working towards the NPQ SENCO qualification or hold the NASENCO qualification. Please note this role is based remotely, but you will be expected to travel to all 9 prison estates across London 3-4 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and assure the quality of additional needs provision across London prisons.
  • Conduct quality assurance of additional learning needs planning and support across London prison education teams.
  • Ensure that the processes around identifying and supporting learners with additional learning needs are effective and efficient and in line with contract expectations.
  • Work in collaboration with Neurodiversity Support Managers, Healthcare and Learning and Skills Manager for learners with additional learning needs and to help ensure that the Local Authority annual review processes are completed in line with the requirements in the 'Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years.'
  • Provide expert advice and support to Education teams within London for complex learners and for ALN learners that may not be making adequate progress.
  • Provide specialist input with Wave 3 learner Education Support Plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate data at regional and prison level on identifying if any disparities exist between learning access and outcomes for learners with/without ALN.
  • Ensure that the contractual timelines are met with respect to the ALN screening, support plans and review processes.
  • Raise ongoing awareness of ALN via staff briefings, internal comms, CPD, and 1:1 management.
  • Share ALN improvements that are implemented at prison and regional level via Share Best Practice staff forums and monthly Quality Improvement Group (QIG) meetings.
  • Assess and process exam access arrangements, covered by the regulatory body; the Joint Council of Qualifications and individual awarding bodies and support sites to apply for these.
