Sports Cover Instructor in Middlesbrough

We're looking for a flexible, motivated and passionate Cover Tutor to join our education team at HMP Millsike .

This is a varied role where you will use your Sports specialism to provide cover for Sports provision when required , delivering engaging learning and supporting learners to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge.

When Sports cover is not required, you will have the opportunity to work across a range of different education workspaces within HMP Millsike , supporting delivery and learner development across the wider education provision. Full training will be provided , so you don't need to be an expert in every area from day one.

This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, is adaptable and is keen to develop their skills across different areas of prison education.

Working alongside Tutors, Learning Support Practitioners, PE Instructors, Work & Skills Coaches and the wider education team, you will help create an inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports rehabilitation, personal development and future employability.

What you'll be doing

• Provide cover for Sports delivery when required , supporting learners undertaking relevant Sports and Coaching qualifications.
• Deliver engaging and supportive learning activities across a range of education workspaces when Sports cover is not required.
• Adapt your teaching and support to meet a diverse range of learner needs , including neurodiverse learners and those with additional support needs.
• Encourage participation, confidence and positive engagement with learning.
• Support learners to develop transferable skills , including communication, teamwork, confidence and employability skills.
• Work with learners to support their individual learning goals and monitor their progress.
• Work collaboratively with Tutors, Learning Support Practitioners, PE Instructors, Work & Skills Coaches and the wider education team to provide a joined-up approach to learner development.
• Maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment , using effective behaviour management and restorative approaches.
• Support the development of literacy and numeracy skills where appropriate, embedding these into learning activities.
• Complete training and development to broaden your knowledge and capability across different areas of the education provision.
• Support the wider education team with cover and learner activities , responding flexibly to the changing needs of the prison.

What we're looking for

• A recognised teaching qualification at Level 3 or above – AET, PTLLS, CET or equivalent.
• A Level 3 qualification in Sport or a related subject.
• Experience delivering sports, fitness or vocational training.
• Experience of working with adults or supporting learners from a range of backgrounds.
• The ability to adapt your approach and work flexibly across different learning environments.
• A willingness to learn and develop your skills across areas outside of your main subject specialism.
• Confidence in supporting learners with literacy, employability and personal development.
• A calm, patient and engaging approach, with the ability to build positive professional relationships.
• An understanding of safeguarding, health and safety and supporting learners with additional needs.

It would be great if you also have

• A full Level 5 teaching qualification , or a willingness to work towards one.
• Experience of working within a prison, secure environment or with learners who have additional support needs.
• Experience delivering vocational or employability-focused learning.
• Knowledge or understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework .
• Experience of working across multiple subjects, curriculum areas or learning environments.
