Were looking for an outstanding Industries Manager to lead our prison industries and vocational workshops, overseeing a team of skilled instructors and ensuring our workshops are safe, productive, compliant and focused on rehabilitation and employability. This is a highly visible leadership role where no two days will be the same. Youll balance people leadership, operational delivery, health & safety, security, performance and employer engagement, while helping prisoners develop real-world skills that can support them into employment. What you'll be doing Youll take ownership of the day-to-day operation and performance of our industries and vocational workshops, providing clear and consistent leadership across the team. Your responsibilities will include: Leading and developing a team of Instructors and Cover Instructors, creating a positive, accountable and high-performing culture. Managing performance, attendance, development, wellbeing and workforce planning. Maintaining exceptionally high standards of health, safety and security, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, machinery and equipment checks and robust tool control. Ensuring workshops operate safely, efficiently and on time, with effective prisoner supervision and attendance management. Driving performance, productivity and workshop utilisation, using data to identify issues and deliver improvements. Ensuring prisoners receive appropriate training, competency assessment and meaningful skills development. Increasing access to accredited qualifications and ensuring skills and achievements are captured through Employability Passports. Managing stock, consumables, equipment, budgets and commercial requirements effectively. Building strong relationships with employers, commercial partners and training providers to create relevant employment and progression opportunities. Using labour-market intelligence to help shape the future industries and qualifications offered. Working closely with prison leadership, Education, Employment, Healthcare, Resettlement and other teams to deliver joined-up outcomes. Investigating incidents, near misses and performance issues and turning learning into meaningful improvements. What we're looking for Were looking for someone who is confident leading people and operations in a busy, highly regulated or safety-critical environment. Youll ideally have: Proven experience managing and developing a team. Strong operational management experience, ideally within workshops, manufacturing, engineering, vocational training, construction, prison industries or a similar environment. A strong understanding of health & safety, risk management and compliance. The confidence to challenge poor standards, address underperformance and make difficult decisions when required. Experience using data and performance information to identify problems and drive improvement. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills. A genuine commitment to developing people and creating positive employment outcomes.
