We're looking for an experienced Site Carpentry Tutor / Vocational Trainer to join our team at HMP Millsike, delivering City & Guilds qualifications up to Level 3 and helping learners develop the practical skills, knowledge and confidence they need to progress into employment. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Carpenter, Joiner, Site Carpenter or Construction professional who is ready to take their career in a different direction and use their industry experience to make a genuine difference.
What you'll be doing:
- Deliver engaging practical and theory-based training in Site Carpentry up to Level 3.
- Develop learners' skills across areas including framing, joisting, roofing and general site carpentry.
- Promote excellent health & safety, including safe working at height and the correct use of tools and equipment.
- Support learners with literacy, numeracy and digital skills alongside their vocational training.
- Adapt your teaching to meet individual learning needs and help every learner achieve their potential.
- Prepare learners for employment by developing their technical skills, confidence, teamwork and employability.
- Work closely with Learning Support Practitioners and prison colleagues to support learner development and rehabilitation.
- Complete assessments, ILPs, attendance records and qualification documentation.
What we're looking for:
We're looking for someone with strong industry experience in site carpentry/construction who can bring their practical knowledge to life in the classroom and workshop. You don't necessarily need previous experience of working in a prison or education environment; your industry expertise is what matters, and you'll be supported to develop within the role.
You'll need:
- Strong experience in Site Carpentry / Construction.
- Relevant industry qualifications.
- The ability to demonstrate and teach practical skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine interest in supporting people to develop and progress.
- A commitment to health, safety and professional standards.
