We are looking for a caring, reliable and proactive Personal Assistant to support a 9-year-old child in his learning and recreational activities.
Purpose of the Role: To provide person-centred support to a child with additional needs, enabling them to achieve maximum independence, wellbeing, and enjoyment in their daily life. The work base can be within the child's home or during social and community activities. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone's daily life.
About the young person: He is a 9-year-old boy who loves social interaction and outdoor activities. He is nonverbal but able to show his likings and dislikings by body gestures. He enjoys activities such as water park visits, parks, bus rides, swinging, jumping, and climbing. Occasionally, he will attend art and craft sessions and cooking lessons. The jobholder needs to accompany him on these sessions and provide 1:1 support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support access to social, leisure and community activities
- Encourage independence, confidence and participation
- Assist with development of social and communication skills
- Provide supervision and ensure safety at all times
- Build a positive and trusting relationship
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Previous work experience with autism/ADHD/complex need children
- Able to build a trustful and caring relationship with the child
- Good physical stamina to cope with active outdoor sessions
- Knowledge and experience in managing meltdowns and other challenging behaviours if they occur during working time
- Creative and able to suggest engaging activities
Desirable:
- Previous or current work experience in a professional level such as a job in a nursery, school or special school
Requirements:
- DBS check (will be arranged if successful)
- Full UK driving licence with work insurance of the vehicle
- Right to work in the UK
Working arrangements:
Location: Maidstone
Number of roles available: 1
Hourly rate: £12.71 per hour.
Hours (Term-time): 4 Hours - mostly on weekends
Hours (School holidays): 8 Hours
