The Role

We are seeking to recruit a permanent, full-time Vocational Trades Tutor in Painting, Decorating, and Tiling who can do more than simply deliver training—someone who can motivate, engage, and inspire learners who may have had little or no previous educational experience. Based on-site at HMP Wayland, you will work with small groups of prison-based learners, helping them develop practical trade skills, industry knowledge, and positive behaviours while supporting their long-term goals and future aspirations. As a Tutor, you will ensure effective training plans are in place, provide guidance and support where needed, and deliver high-quality, engaging vocational training that enables learners to build confidence and achieve their full potential.

What We Are Looking For

  • Level 2 vocational qualification in Painting & Decorating and/or Tiling
  • Strong industry experience within your trade area
  • Experience delivering vocational or practical skills training
  • A teaching or assessing qualification is desirable
  • Ability to use a range of engaging teaching and training methods to support learners with varying needs and abilities

If you do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, we can support you in achieving the appropriate qualifications and assessments during your probationary period.

Our Social Recruitment Framework brings together organisations to tackle any pre-conceived ideas about hiring people who have previously been involved in crime.
