We are seeking a part-time Library Assistant to join our Education team, helping to deliver an outstanding library service in collaboration with customers, colleagues, and the prison service. Based at HMP Foston Hall, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the library, including lending and shelving resources, creating engaging displays, and assisting customers with a wide range of reading and information needs, all under the guidance of the Library Manager.
You will help customers make the most of reading and digital services, responding to queries, offering clear signposting, and providing practical support so they can access the information they need. The role also involves contributing to outreach work, library events, and learning programmes that encourage engagement and personal development. This is a part-time position of 16 hours per week. The working pattern includes full-day Friday 0800-1645, Saturday mornings 0800-12 Noon, and flexibility for the remaining hours.
What we are looking for:
- Someone who demonstrates strong ethical standards, takes full responsibility for their work, and is committed to delivering the highest quality service.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- Confidence using IT systems, including internet browsers and Microsoft Office.
- A genuine interest in reading, publishing trends, and recommending suitable titles for a range of abilities.
- A solid understanding of customer service principles.
- Experience of working in a custodial environment and of developing learning resources would be an advantage.
