We are looking for a Planning Manager to join our Major Projects team within Energy to support with the development, maintenance and management of the project programmes across the department.
As the Planning Manager, you will report to the Head of PMO and act as a subject matter expert within the department. You will be at the centre of programme and planning discussions with all stakeholders. In this role, you are expected to lead the planning team by delivering all planning requirements set out by the department and contract requirements.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved with and responsible for:
- Manage and lead a team and programmes across the Major Projects department.
- Responsible for ensuring all programmes, schedules, and supporting documentation are accurate, comprehensive, and fully compliant.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the planning team by mentoring and developing talent and create an environment where collaboration and a high-performance culture become the standard.
- Work closely with other departments like the operational team, commercial team and design team to ensure programmes are realistic, practicable, comply with scope requirements and are achievable.
- Manage and implement schedule changes in compliance with NEC contract requirements, providing guidance to the team.
- Accurately assess, document, and communicate all change events to the business and stakeholders.
- Be willing and able to visit different project sites as needed to provide handsâon support to the delivery and planning teams.
- Lead and participate in regular meetings (including planning) to keep all stakeholders informed and aligned on the programme and project plan.
- Create clear and concise summary programmes, reports, and visual charts to effectively communicate programme logic across all levels, including for company presentations.
- Apply resource and cost loading to all programmes in line with business and contractual requirements, supporting accurate reporting through dashboards, earned value management, and overall project performance tracking.
- Support the estimating & preconstruction team with the development of tender programmes that deliver the most efficient and effective schedule of works, fully aligned with the design, specifications, and scope of tenders.
- Provide expert advice and guidance and identify risks and opportunities on the programme schedule.

- A detailed and forwardâthinking approach to problem solving.
- Excellent organisational skills and consistently complete tasks "right first time" and keep with project protocols.
- Demonstrable experience with the management and development of schemes from preâconstruction, through construction and into handover.
- Electrical Substation experience and/or working on a distribution network operation (DNO) type project is beneficial, along with a good knowledge of NEC type contracts.
- Extensive experience of using Primavera P6 including cost and resource loading to an advanced level and a good knowledge of MS Project.
- An understanding of NRWSA (New Roads and Street Works Act) regulations would be advantageous.
