That’s why we need people like you to help us deliver on our promises. People who enjoy getting things done and want to develop their experience in the world of utilities.

We’re looking to recruit a Mains Laying Team Leader to join us working on Thames Water framework, leading a team delivering clean water mains laying and renewal works. This is a hands‑on supervisory role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, leading from the front, and taking pride in safe, high‑quality delivery.

You’ll be responsible for coordinating daily activities, setting your team up for success, and ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and in line with Thames Water and Clancy standards.

Responsibilities

  • Planning daily works, allocating tasks, and managing labour, plant, and materials
  • Delivering pre-start briefings, toolbox talks, and daily risk assessments
  • Ensuring trench set‑ups, methods, and reinstatement meet specification and quality standards
  • Maintaining full compliance with health, safety, environmental, CDM, and Thames Water requirements
  • Mentoring, coaching, and supporting operatives to maintain high standards of workmanship
  • Checking equipment and plant are fit for use and operated safely
  • Liaising with supervisors, planners, engineers, and other stakeholders to support delivery
  • Completing site documentation, job records, timesheets, and quality paperwork
  • Identifying issues or delays and implementing solutions, escalating where required

Qualifications

You have proven experience leading mains laying or utilities teams within a clean water environment, with a strong understanding of water mains installation standards and safe working practices. You’ll be confident organising site activities, managing crews, and maintaining high levels of safety and quality on site.

A full, clean UK manual driving licence is essential, along with NRSWA Supervisor accreditation. Experience using CAT & Genny, strong health and safety awareness, and familiarity with underground services are required. Tickets such as CPCS/NPORS for relevant plant, CSCS, and other utilities safety qualifications are highly desirable.

You’ll be a positive, practical leader with good communication skills, comfortable working in all weather conditions, and motivated to develop your team while delivering right‑first‑time results.

Benefits

Competitive salary, pension, healthcare and holiday allowance starting at 22 days per annum, as well as perks including Clancy Xtras, our employee benefits programme with discounts for numerous well‑known retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Currys PC World and Vue Cinemas, cycle to work scheme as well as an Employee Assistance Programme.

Clancy is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all our employees. If you require any reasonable adjustments to be made for you to attend an interview, please do let us know and we will be happy to accommodate.
