Overview
Role Purpose
The Merchandiser (furniture) plays a pivotal role in driving category sales, profit and margin performance through commercial planning, forecasting and stock management. Working in partnership with the category lead, suppliers and cross-functional teams, the role is responsible for ensuring the right stock is available at the right time to maximise sales opportunities, optimise inventory investment and deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Role & Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimise the WSSI, ensuring effective management of sales, stock, intake, OTB and availability across the category.
- Manage stock availability, forecasting and replenishment to maximise sales, margin and stock performance.
- Develop accurate sales, stock and supplier forecasts to support business objectives and improve forecast accuracy.
- Monitor trading performance, analysing key KPIs and identifying risks and opportunities to drive sales, profit and margin.
- Lead planning and forecasting cycles, supporting budget setting, phasing and seasonal trading plans.
- Manage supplier relationships and stock flow to ensure delivery commitments, service levels and critical path milestones are achieved.
- Support successful product launches through effective purchase order management, forecasting and cross-functional coordination.
- Drive stock efficiency through effective management of lifecycle stock, including terminal and discontinued lines.
- Evaluate the impact of pricing, promotional and ranging decisions, making recommendations to improve commercial performance.
- Collaborate with Category, Retail, Wholesale and Digital teams to optimise product availability, sales and profitability.
- Produce trading reports, forecasts and performance analysis, providing actionable commercial insights to support decision-making.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and customer demand to identify opportunities for growth and continuous improvement.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proven experience in a Merchandising or Merchandise Planning role within a retail environment.
- Strong understanding of forecasting, stock management and merchandising systems.
- Track record of delivering sales, profit, margin and stock targets.
- Experience managing stock availability in line with trading and seasonal demand.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver priorities in line with critical path deadlines.
