Our client, a leading organisation delivering one of the UK’s most significant nuclear infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced area planner to join their Project Controls team based in the Bristol area. This is an outstanding opportunity to play a key role in the planning and successful delivery of a complex, high‑profile engineering programme.

The Role

As Area Planner, you will be responsible for developing, managing and maintaining detailed construction schedules within your designated project area. You will provide clear and accurate project insights to support evidence‑based decision‑making and ensure robust planning controls are in place. Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Cost Controllers, and Risk teams, you will help drive project performance and proactively manage schedule impacts, risks, and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate and concise project insights using commercial and technical information to inform decision‑making.
  • Lead area planning activities and maintain fully logic‑linked construction schedules.
  • Assess the impact of changes and decisions on project risk and planning delivery.
  • Communicate complex planning issues and insights clearly to both technical and non‑technical senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively across organisational and functional boundaries.
  • Utilise the HPC PMO Digital Planning Platforms and associated planning tools.
  • Support schedule risk analysis, earned value reporting and integrated project controls activities.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Planner or Area Planner within major engineering, infrastructure, energy or nuclear projects.
  • Detailed understanding of scheduling methodologies and planning techniques.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of EPC delivery methods in the UK.
  • Ability to produce accurate, complete and fully logic‑linked construction programmes.
  • Strong understanding of Project Controls disciplines, particularly Cost, Estimating and Risk.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Analysis (EVA).
  • Familiarity with contract types including NEC and FIDIC.
  • Understanding of schedule risk analysis techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication abilities.

Desirable

  • Experience working on major nuclear or similar regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of HPC PMO digital planning platforms.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 and related Project Controls software.
