People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Surface Imports Traffic Operator & Assistant to join our well-established client based in Leicester, Leicestershire. This is an excellent opportunity offering full training, ongoing development, and genuine long-term career progression within the freight and logistics industry.

Previous experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided for the right candidate. This role would suit candidates looking to begin or develop a career within imports, freight forwarding, logistics, and transport operations.

Shifts:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 08:00 – 16:30
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Permanent position

Salary:

  • Starting salary from £19,000 per annum (age dependent)
  • Higher starting salaries available depending on experience (DOE)
  • Regular salary reviews as skills and experience develop

Day-to-Day Duties:

  • Supporting the Import Operations department with day-to-day activities
  • Managing and updating in-house operational systems accurately
  • Monitoring deliveries and providing timely updates to customers and colleagues
  • Communicating professionally with customers, suppliers, and transport partners
  • Checking and processing import shipment documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with customs requirements and company procedures
  • Supporting colleagues across departments when required
  • Assisting with resolving operational queries and delivery issues

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive, flexible, and positive attitude
  • A willingness to learn and develop within the freight and logistics industry
  • A Basic DBS check (criminal record check)
  • A five-year employment or education history with no gaps exceeding 28 days

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience within freight forwarding, imports, logistics, transport, or administration is advantageous but not essential
  • Knowledge of customs procedures or shipping documentation is desirable but full training will be provided
  • Experience working within a busy office or transport environment
